C1: Hisarya Municipality https://europeanspas.eu/eia-projects/c1-hisarya-municipality/ Fri, 13 Sep 2024 11:50:12 +0000 https://europeanspas.eu/?post_type=eia-projects&p=5163 The Municipality of Hisarya is located in central Bulgaria, in the Plovdiv region. This city is the only one in Europe (on the Globe) with a full structure of a Roman city wall and a functioning spring in a Roman spa complex. This unique world heritage is getting to have more integration in the tourism attraction by organizing events, creating light shows around, and most importantly, extending the excavation of the former Roman luxury spa complex. It is known for its unique climate, mineral springs, and rich historical heritage. Hisarya is a popular destination for balneotherapy and spa tourism, thanks to the healing properties of its mineral waters, which attract visitors from across the country and abroad.

The town and its surroundings are rich in archaeological finds, including Roman baths, fortress walls, and remnants of ancient settlements, testifying to the area’s millennia-long history. Additionally, Hisarya is surrounded by beautiful natural landscapes, making it an ideal place for relaxation and tourism.

The Municipality of Hisarya includes several villages, each preserving the authentic Bulgarian spirit and traditions. The local economy is mainly based on tourism, agriculture, and food processing. Thanks to its unique combination of nature, history, and culture, Hisarya is becoming a significant tourist and cultural center in Bulgaria.

1. Originality

It is a unique spa destination with a circle of all four gates, the Roman city wall, and a functioning spring in a Roman spa complex.

The new initiative is focused on revitalizing the historical core, aiming to infuse it with more life and vibrancy. The VR guide application allows visitors to experience important artifacts from the Roman era in 3D, while the expansion of sites will further enhance this attraction. Additionally, the introduction of music festivals and other events is drawing more attention to this unique historical setting, breathing new life into the area. We want to bring the Roman thermal baths era closer to our guests and make it an experience.

Due to its unique natural features, rich cultural and historical heritage, authentic traditions, and healing mineral springs combined with the authentic traditions and hospitality of the locals, the town of Hisarya is a favorite place for relaxation for many Bulgarians and foreigners. The healing mineral springs in Hisarya have been a center of attraction for thousands of years and many people and civilizations have left marks of their culture here.

The city boasts of exceptional natural resources, including 22 mineral springs with different compositions and healing properties. Although these springs have been used for centuries, the tourist sector on the territory of the municipality Hissarya has developed and they have successfully integrated modern technologies into balneotherapy. For example, the integration of contemporary hydrotherapy systems with mineral water significantly increases the effectiveness of treatment, making it attractive to a broader range of visitors.

2. Impact and benefits

Municipality of Hisarya offers a unique combination of Spa, Cultural, Wine, Congress, Adventure and Health tourism. The city is rich in archaeological landmarks that attract history enthusiasts, while its modern spa facilities cater to those seeking innovation and high-quality treatments. This blend of antiquity and modernity makes Hisarya unique and appealing to a diverse audience.

3. Sustainability

With its combination of natural resources, modern technologies, sustainable development, and cultural heritage, the city sets new standards in spa tourism. Around the roman wall the bike road was completed and our guest like this new infrastrucure very much. We plan to realize much more of bike roads in the near future.

Aquahouse Thermal & Beach is a concept of health and beauty through the power of water to purify, heal, give life, energy and grace. The thermal complex is an innovation in line with the overall vision for the development of Sts. Constantine and Helena as a sea and spa destination. The implementation of the project began in the autumn of 2016 with the modernization of the existing public thermal pool on the same site and its transformation into a modern spa complex, which retained its status as a public place for beach, rest, leisure, sports or for preventive care, balneology and the need for healing therapies with mineral water. C1: Ensana / Lecebne lazne Marianske Lazne a.s. https://europeanspas.eu/eia-projects/ensana-lecebne-lazne-marianske-lazne-a-s/ Mon, 25 Sep 2023 08:51:28 +0000 https://europeanspas.eu/?post_type=eia-projects&p=3579 This nomination is the joint effort between the town of Mariánské Lázně and the ENSANA Spa company which recently led to the spa being awarded much coveted climatic spa status. Two centuries since this beautiful spa town was established, this cooperation continues the work of the city fathers, adding a new natural source – the local climate – to our existing resources. Mariánské Lázně is one of the oldest spas in the Czech Republic to utilise natural healing resources, namely mineral water, natural CO² gas and peat. Climatic spa status will inevitably lead to an expansion of what Mariánské Lázně can offer in the way of spa treatments. The task of acquiring such status was launched back in 2021 and involved gathering expert opinion on the state of the environment in the spa, evaluating the climate and bioclimate in and around Mariánské Lázně and gaining expert advice on the suitability of local climatic conditions for therapeutic purposes. In June 2023, the Czech Health Ministry made the decision to grant the town climatic spa status. Mariánské Lázně will thus acquire a wider range of indications.
Climatic spa status will contribute significantly to the long-term sustainability of the spa industry in Mariánské Lázně, as well as ensuring the protection of our natural environment going forward, including the climate. The installation of a meteorological station and an emissions monitoring station of the highest standard is part and parcel of the climate spa statute. In addition to the permanent monitoring of air quality and the weather, the data will also be used to recommend outdoor exercise programmes on specific routes and at given altitudes.
Climatic spa status means various interested parties in Mariánské Lázně will work together and this will go a long way to solving a range of local issues such air cleanliness, heating policy, traffic and transport, the maintenance of parks and roads, forest matters, water management, spa walking trails, water treatment and much more besides. Climatic spa status provides a guarantee that the natural environment and unique bioclimatic conditions that prevail in Mariánské Lázně will be preserved for generations to come.
