The Clinic today combines modern medicine, herbal medicine, nutrition, and a holistic approach to health.

At the heart of Heilsustofnun’s mission is medical rehabilitation, designed for those recovering from illness, injury, or long-term health conditions. Treatments are individually tailored and integrate medical, psychological, social, and technical approaches to help patients regain independence and improve quality of life. Programs address a wide range of needs, from heart conditions, arthritis, and cancer recovery to stress management and dietary concerns.

Alongside rehabilitation, the Clinic also offers wellness retreats open to all, where guests can enjoy nourishing organic meals, spa facilities, exercise programs, and the restorative power of a calm environment. For its anniversary, Heilsustofnun organised a festive programme, held during Hveragerði’s Blooming Days, featuring musical performances, a farmers’ market, guided walks, storytelling and a special exhibition honouring the Clinic’s founder, Dr. Jónas Kristjánsson. The occasion also marked the 20th anniversary of Hollvinir, the Clinic’s circle of friends, adding to the spirit of gratitude and continuity.

Mrs. Elisabetta Neri, CEO of Travelux Club and a distinguished speaker at the last European Spas Congress, provided insights into luxury tourism and introduced the prestigious B2B event in Venice, where luxury travel tour operators connect. As part of this ongoing collaboration, the Slovenian Spas Association presented the “Healing Water Initiative“. This initiative, spearheaded by the European Spas Association in 2023 at ITB Berlin, highlights the significance of mineral water in health and wellness. Rich in essential minerals, natural healing waters help replenish electrolytes, support muscle recovery, and improve circulation. Detoxification & Metabolism Boost – Drinking and bathing in mineral-rich waters can enhance detoxification, aid digestion, and optimize metabolic functions.

From March 18 to 22, Slovenian Spas participated in the Travelux Club event at the JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa. A Water Bar – “Healthy Waters” offered tastings of European mineral water, attracting luxury travel professionals. A special presentation was delivered by Iztok Altbauer, introducing Slovenian Spas & Health Resorts and ESPA members. At the same time, Marko Gajić, co-founder of the Bled Water Festival, emphasized the connection between water and health. A guided water-tasting experience featuring waters from Slovenia, Italy, and Korea was a highlight for journalists and select tour operators.

Following last year’s success, Travelux Club continues to focus on health and well-being. The enthusiastic reception of the Healing Water Initiative reinforces the growing interest in natural healing resources within the luxury travel sector.

Lithuania recognised as one of the world’s top health tourism destinations https://europeanspas.eu/lithuania-recognised-as-one-of-the-worlds-top-health-tourism-destinations/ https://europeanspas.eu/lithuania-recognised-as-one-of-the-worlds-top-health-tourism-destinations/#respond Wed, 12 Mar 2025 16:16:21 +0000 https://europeanspas.eu/?p=5734 Lithuania was awarded the prestigious ITB Health Tourism Award 2025

Lithuania was awarded the prestigious ITB Health Tourism Award 2025 at an awards ceremony in Berlin recognising the development of health tourism infrastructure, the quality of its services and its international visibility. This recognition is considered one of the most significant internationally.

Not just an honour, but also an economic benefit

Kristina Citvarienė, Director of the Lithuanian Resorts Association, says that this award is not only a great honour for Lithuania’s health tourism sector but also a strategic opportunity for the country.

“Lithuania’s health tourism sector is growing steadily and attracting more and more foreign tourists looking for high quality health and wellness services. “The ITB Health Tourism Award 2025 further strengthens Lithuania’s image as an attractive and innovative health tourism destination and contributes to increasing its international visibility. I am sure it will encourage further development of the sector and allow planning for higher flows of health tourists,” says K. Citvarienė.

She also stresses that international recognition is important not only for the country’s health tourism sector, but also for the local population.

“As the number of visitors increases and competition from health facilities grows, the quality of services will further improve, and it is not only tourists who use them, but also locals. In addition, Lithuania’s growing attractiveness as a place where even more foreigners are likely to come for health purposes will mean greater economic benefits for the country and more opportunities to create additional jobs for professionals working in the health sector,” says K. Citvarienė, Director of the Lithuanian Resorts Association.

According to her, Lithuania has been a European leader in health tourism for many years, competing successfully with countries such as Germany, Switzerland, Austria and the Czech Republic.

“Lithuanian spas have long been renowned for their unique wellness traditions and innovative treatments. This award is a recognition of the work of the whole sector and proof that we are moving in the right direction, combining traditional values with modern technologies. Health tourism is a very promising area for Lithuania, and such achievements as this award or the ESPA Congress held in our country last autumn significantly strengthen Lithuania’s position as a high-quality health tourism destination in Europe”, – emphasises K. Citvarienė, Executive Director of the Lithuanian Spa Association.

More visitors and longer stays

For his part, Artūras Salda, head of the National Association of Sanatoriums and Rehabilitation Institutions, says that the recognition is not only the result of persistent work, but also the successful use of the country’s natural resources.

“Lithuania’s health tourism tradition dates back more than 200 years, which is why our 4 main spas and 5 health resorts are well-developed. Moreover, all of them are characterised by one or other natural healing factors: mineral water, therapeutic mud, unique micro-climate, the influence and benefits of which have been confirmed by scientists for the human body. It is great that we are able to use all of this for the benefit of the Lithuanian people and visiting guests,” said A. Salda.

According to him, the wide choice of rehabilitation, spa and recreation services, the increasing accessibility to major European cities and the attractive price-quality ratio have also led to the country’s international visibility and increasing appreciation.

The growing recognition of the health tourism infrastructure developed in Lithuanian spas and health resorts is also reflected in improving figures. Statistics from the National Sanatoriums and Rehabilitation Institutions reveal that 290 000 clients will visit Lithuanian sanatoriums and rehabilitation centres in 2024. This is 16% more than the year before. The number of nights spent has also increased. It jumped by 21% to almost 1.5 million overnight stays per year.

The most notable overnight stays are from Germany and Israel. On average, they spent more than 11 nights in Lithuanian health establishments last year. According to A. Saldos, Head of the National Association of Sanatoriums and Rehabilitation Institutions, this means that foreign clients are coming for longer stays and for preventive purposes.

Lithuanians are also paying more and more attention to wellness. Statistics show that those who pay for their own accommodation, rather than being sent through the State Patients’ Fund, also tend to spend more time in health facilities. Their average number of bed days has reached 2.5 days.

Lithuania is more visible than ever before

In recent years, Lithuania has received more international recognition. At the 2024 European Spa Association (ESPA) Congress, the country’s sanatoriums and spa centres received 7 awards.

Last year, Lithuania was also recognised by Lonely Planet. The publication named our country the second best travel destination in the world and the best in Europe for 2025.

Lithuania’s wellness sector was also in the international media spotlight last year. In particular, Forbes columnist Stephan Rabimov wrote about our country’s achievements in this field in his article “How Lithuania Is Redrawing The Wellness Travel Map”.

The country’s capital has also received exceptional recognition. Vilnius was named “European Christmas Capital 2025” and voted “European Green Capital 2025”.

ITB Berlin, the world’s largest and most influential tourism trade fair, awarded Lithuania for its outstanding achievements in the fields of medicine and wellness, sustainable development and successful international cooperation. The official presentation of the award took place on 5 March in Berlin at the prestigious ITB Medical & Health Night event.

This initiative aims to provide specialized services to children with disabilities. At present, 240 beneficiaries, each with different diagnoses such as cerebral palsy, autism, behavioural disorders, Down syndrome, birth trauma consequences, developmental delays, speech delays, inflammatory neuropathies, and more, are receiving support through the program.

The beneficiaries undergo a variety of therapeutic services tailored to their needs, including:

  • Physical therapy
  • Occupational therapy
  • Behavioural therapy
  • Psychological correction
  • Speech and language therapy
  • Hydrokinetic therapy

Each child’s rehabilitation plan is developed individually, in close coordination with their neurologist and parents. The annual limit for therapeutic sessions per beneficiary is 192 sessions, ensuring that each child receives comprehensive care based on their specific condition and progress.

This approach provides targeted, holistic rehabilitation to address the varied needs of children with disabilities, aiming for better social integration and improved quality of life.

The Tbilisi Balneological Spa Resort is uniquely positioned to support the “Children’s Rehabilitation/Habilitation” program with its therapeutic approach, which incorporates the use of the resort’s distinctive sulfur water. The program is specifically designed to address a wide range of developmental and physical challenges faced by children with disabilities. The integration of sulfur water therapy into the rehabilitation process has shown to yield excellent results, contributing positively to the overall outcomes of the program.

Sulfur water is known for its healing properties, particularly in the treatment of musculoskeletal, neurological, and skin conditions. By incorporating this natural resource into individualized rehabilitation plans, the program is able to provide targeted physical and hydrokinetic therapies, offering benefits such as improved circulation, reduced muscle tension, and enhanced joint mobility.

Each rehabilitation course at the Tbilisi Balneological Spa Resort is personalized to suit the unique needs of the child, aligning with the specific diagnosis and therapeutic goals. The combination of sulfur water therapy with physical, occupational, and speech therapies is a key factor in the positive results observed within the program, helping children with conditions like cerebral palsy, autism, developmental delays, and more achieve significant progress in their rehabilitation. This holistic, individualized approach ensures that each child receives comprehensive care that supports both their physical and emotional well-being.

Natural resources – against stress and ageing https://europeanspas.eu/natural-resources-against-stress-and-ageing-2/ https://europeanspas.eu/natural-resources-against-stress-and-ageing-2/#respond Fri, 12 Apr 2024 08:10:53 +0000 https://europeanspas.eu/?p=4425 Scientists from Klaipėda University, Lithuania have conducted a unique scientific study that revealed the importance of natural resources in combating stress and ageing. The study documented impressive transformations in participants’ well-being – decreased stress, anxiety, depression, and fatigue, along with improvements in skin appearance, increased energy, better sleep, reduced pain, decreased biological age, and enhanced other health indicators.

Researchers conducting the study confirmed that natural resources found in Lithuanian resort towns can significantly improve people’s health and sometimes even replace traditional medicines or assist them in overcoming health concerns, especially in the aftermath of COVID-19. This provides a clear signal to actively develop balneology and resort management and to utilize natural resources as a preventive measure in combating the consequences of stress or ageing.

The scientific study conducted in three cities – Palanga, Birštonas, and Druskininkai – was led by Klaipėda University (KU). The research team included a family physician who interacts with patients daily, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lolita Rapoliene and five colleagues attracted more experts from both Lithuania and abroad.

Balneotherapy with mineral water and therapeutic mud is an excellent, eco-friendly method that complements conventional therapy

The results of the study revealed that stress is widely prevalent in society. The COVID-19 pandemic has further exacerbated the situation, increasing the frequency of negative health consequences. Therefore, it is important to seek effective and natural methods to reduce stress and improve health. Balneotherapy with mineral water and therapeutic mud is an excellent, eco-friendly method that complements conventional therapy and has been used safely and effectively for thousands of years. The study showed that balneotherapy procedures with various natural resources improve mental and physical health by enhancing musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, and respiratory system function, metabolism, and skin conditions, especially during the winter season.

According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. L. Rapoliene, “It seems unbelievable, but it turns out that even a three-day course of procedures in a medical spa is enough to reduce stress, anxiety, depression, and fatigue levels, and life brightens with new colours, improving work and social adaptation and reducing biological age by 2.2 years.” And the effect of a two-week course of procedures lasts up to six months.

This study has opened up new opportunities in the field of balneology and resort management to more effectively combat stress and improve the health of the population. “Mineral water, therapeutic mud, halotherapy, and time in nature – gifts of the Earth that can strengthen or restore health in any season, in any regime, using various natural resources.”

Highlights from the International Health Tourism Forum 2024 in Turkey https://europeanspas.eu/highlights-from-the-international-health-tourism-forum-2024-in-turkey/ https://europeanspas.eu/highlights-from-the-international-health-tourism-forum-2024-in-turkey/#respond Fri, 19 Jan 2024 09:46:06 +0000 https://europeanspas.eu/?p=4157 On behalf of ESPA, Ms. Marlies Sobczak-Boumans, a board member of the European Spas Association and the leader of the European Spas Association Thalasso group, attended the international Health Tourism Forum in Turkey.

Health tourism is experiencing explosive growth and will play an increasingly important role in the future. The presence of a “local remedy” such as thermal water or the Thalasso environment close to the sea plays a decisive role. Healh tourism, but in a relaxing wellness environment, fits in with the offering for the future.

Prof. Dr.Vural Kavuncu made a plea that the medical world and the wellness sector should come closer together. Packages sun holidays in locations where temperatures can reach 50 degrees will become a thing of the past, according to Prof.Dr. Wolfgang Arit.

Many specialists spoke during the international Health Tourism Forum that took place in Denizli, Turkey in January. For that occasion Prof. Dr. Zeki Karagulle, active in ESPA for many years, had invited experts from various European countries for a lecture. Claudia Wagner, as manager of Fit Reisen, the largest German travel organizations for health travel, provided an overview of current trends and emphasized the importance of travel in the field of mental health.

“Vacations accompanied by professionals contribute to happiness. And that’s what people are looking for.”

Ms. Sobczak-Boumans, a board member of the European Spas Association, recently gave a presentation on the latest developments in the field of health tourism in the Netherlands. During the presentation, she highlighted the green initiatives and new health-oriented services in the coastal areas of Domburg, Cadzand, and Noordwijk. Thalassotherapy and climate can be effectively utilized to create new ways to stay healthy and active on the seaside.

With this conference, the University of Pamukkale opened the doors of the recently completed Thermal Rehabilitation Center and with the International Health Tourism Forum 2024 the University aimed to create an envirmont by bringing together all parties in the health tourisme sector and increasing knowledge on theory and practices with international speakers. The event shows that we are on a cross point and that change in future bring opportunities for the medical as the tourism sector as well.

The time spent together between panels was a warm get-together between European Spas friends.

Exploring Infrastructure Investments and Occupancy Trends in Slovenian Natural Spas https://europeanspas.eu/exploring-infrastructure-investments-and-occupancy-trends-in-slovenian-natural-spas/ https://europeanspas.eu/exploring-infrastructure-investments-and-occupancy-trends-in-slovenian-natural-spas/#respond Fri, 05 Jan 2024 12:15:43 +0000 https://europeanspas.eu/?p=4145 Slovenian natural spas finished a successful year 2023 and are in excellent condition and ready for a new investment cycle, which will further enhance the already rich offer and try to appeal to an even more demanding guest.

In many spa companies, they have plans that, in addition to the renovations that have already been carried out and the very important investments in renewable resources this year, will continue in 2024. The innovations will include both renovations of certain buildings that were not currently used for living, as well as spa infrastructure, which is intended for patients for spa treatment. Since all companies are committed to sustainable and economical operation, they will also continue to invest in renewable resources by building solar power plants, building a reinjection well, using geothermal energy, and we are especially happy that plans are also being prepared for the construction of a new accommodation facility. With such bold plans, the tourism product HEALTH and WELL-BEING continues to strengthen itself as a leading pillar of Slovenian tourism, which is among the most recognizable and pervasive both at home and abroad.

The forecasts for all 12 spas are very promising for the whole of December and especially for the Christmas and New Year vacations. In all resorts, reservations are better than in the same period last year, and in most hotels even the last rooms are being occupied these days or the hotel capacities are already fully booked. Certainly the hard and dedicated work of all employees in the spas in the past as well as the creativity in creating varied, rich and interesting programs have contributed to this state.

Good work in the past is always rewarded with success in the future, as the many compliments from our regular and new guests show. Otherwise, most vacations are spent by domestic guests in the spas, while most foreign guests will come from Italy, Austria, Croatia, Germany and the Czech Republic.

The forecasts for the first few days of January and the coming months of the new year are also better than for the same period last year according to the current projections, which already predicts another very good year, for which we all certainly hope most of all that it will not be accompanied by another catastrophe, war or other serious unpleasantness. We hope that the financial year will be as peaceful and normal as possible so that we can devote even more time to our guests.

Slovenian Spas Association members are: Terme Čatež, Terme Dobrna, Terme Krka, Sava Turizem, Terme Olimia, Terme Portorož, Terme Zreče, and Thermana.

A toast to good health: breaking world record in Karlovy Vary https://europeanspas.eu/a-toast-to-good-health/ https://europeanspas.eu/a-toast-to-good-health/#respond Thu, 28 Sep 2023 09:51:13 +0000 https://europeanspas.eu/?p=3679

In a world increasingly driven by innovation and achievements, a unique event is on the horizon – one that celebrates not just human potential, but the power of natural resources in promoting health and well-being. The call is out, and it’s an invitation to be part of an extraordinary endeavor: setting a world record for the highest number of people simultaneously enjoying the benefits of healing mineral water. Welcome to the “Drinking for Health” initiative, a remarkable undertaking that not only seeks to create history but also raises a toast to our shared commitment to well-being.

The backdrop for this exciting record-breaking attempt couldn’t be more picturesque – the historic Colonnade building in the heart of the Karlovy Vary Region. Here, tradition meets modernity, offering participants an exquisite experience of sipping healing mineral water from traditional glasses against a backdrop of architectural splendor. It’s an image that embodies the harmony between human health and the natural world.

The “Drinking for Health” event aims to bring together more than 25 nationalities and 300 participants, uniting people from diverse backgrounds under a common cause – the pursuit of health and vitality. In a world where borders often divide us, this initiative breaks through those barriers, reminding us that when it comes to health, we are all united. Health knows no nationality or creed; it’s a universal language spoken by people from every corner of the globe.

But this event is not just about setting records; it’s about making a statement. It’s a testament to the fact that health and well-being should be accessible to all, regardless of where we come from. It’s a call to action, asking us to reflect on the importance of natural resources like healing mineral water in nurturing our bodies and minds.

The question arises: should this extraordinary feat be recognized by the prestigious Guinness World Records? We believe the answer is a resounding “yes.” By seeking acknowledgment from Guinness, the “Drinking for Health” initiative amplifies its message, extending an invitation to the world to take note of the significance of health and well-being in our lives.

Moreover, the European Spas Association (ESPA) congress stands as a vital platform for this initiative. It offers an opportunity for stakeholders, policymakers, and health enthusiasts to come together, exchange ideas, and champion the cause of holistic well-being. By participating in this record-breaking event at the ESPA congress, we not only show our support for the initiative but also reinforce our commitment to fostering a culture of health and vitality across Europe and beyond

As we prepare to raise our glasses to this extraordinary undertaking, let us remember that this event is more than just a world record attempt. It’s a celebration of life, a recognition of the importance of natural healing resources, and a call for unity in our shared pursuit of health and well-being. So, join us, whether as a participant, a supporter, or an observer, in this remarkable journey towards a world record that speaks to the essence of what it means to be human – the desire to live a healthy and fulfilling life.

Cheers to “Drinking for Health” – a toast to a brighter, healthier future for all.

An important focus this year is the search for a variety of accommodation capacities, both in hotels and in non-hotel accommodation (apartments, campsites, mobile homes, glamping sites). There is also a noticeable demand for renovated facilities, especially of a higher quality and price class, which undoubtedly justifies all investments, especially for the target group of couples and guests who want a more individual, boutique vacation. A noticeable trend is also the search for the possibility of trips to the surroundings, both on walking and hiking paths and bicycle trips. Investing in environmentally friendly programs and obtaining the Slovenia Green environmental mark in many Slovenian natural Spas also play an important role in raising awareness among guests. All these measures are not recognizable at first glance, but investments in, for example, returning unused thermal water to aquifers are certainly a measure for the future and, as such, very important.

The structure of guests is expected, with a slight drop in the number of domestic guests, who were still using tourist vouchers at the beginning of 2022. In addition to guests from neighbouring countries and Germany, the increased number of guests from the so-called Visegrad group, especially from the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland, and now at the peak of the season, also guests from Benelux, is particularly impressive. By the end of the summer and further, into the fall, we hope for slightly better results due to short-term decisions and reservations.

TERME ČATEŽ THERMAL SPA

This year, Terme Čatež received two flattering awards for Terme Village – camp, namely ‘The best Slovenian camp’ according to ADAC and ACSI. More at https://www.terme-catez.si/en/events-and-news/2023/07/4619-Camp-Terme-Catez-is-once-again-the-best-camp-in-Slovenia

For decades, Terme Čatež has been synonymous with tourism 365 days, we are open all year round, and in the summer months the occupancy is even higher due to the holidays of domestic and foreign guests.

At the beginning of the summer, the resort presented and offered guests a new application that enables the purchase of all-day tickets for the Thermal Riviera and valuable gift vouchers for all the services of Terme Čatež.

TERME DOBRNA THERMAL SPA

During the entire first half of the year, the resort recorded good occupancy of accommodation capacities in Terme Dobrna, comparable to last year. In this year’s summer months, they expect an additional increase compared to last year.

Compared to last year, the resort has noticed changes in the share of occupancy by foreign guests in 2023. As expected, the number of visitors from abroad increased, with the largest number of German, Austrian and Italian guests.

In the first half of the year, they opened a renovated Hotel Švicarija in Terme Dobrna, which has come to life perfectly and is very popular among guests both in the summer months and in the autumn and winter, the right choice for all those who swear by wellness pampering. With the included wellness and spa offer available at Hotel Švicarija, Terma Dobrna is thus expanding its accommodation boutique complex, which also includes Spa Suite apartments and Boutique Hotel Dobrna.

TERME KRKA THERMAL SPAS

According to their estimates, the 2023 summer season will be similar to the summers of previous years – they expect loyal domestic guests both in the Terme Šmarješke Toplice and Terme Dolenjske Toplice, as well as in the coastal Talas Strunjan. Also, they are recording a lot of reservations by foreign guests. Most of them are from Italy and other neighbouring countries, as well as Germany and the Czech Republic.

Classic thermal vacations, accommodation in the renovated Strunjan Lagoon and holidays with elements of mindfulness are at the forefront in the Terme Dolenjske Toplice. This year, guests are choosing longer vacation stays of a few days – they are interested in attractive, modern and uniquely equipped accommodation units, beautifully landscaped natural surroundings, safe and well-kept swimming pools, an offer of various relaxation and sports activities and getting to know the environment.

They want high-quality and above-standard services, food made from top-quality local ingredients, and above all, personal treatment. Terme Krka offers them all this – as an authentic experience.

THERMANA LAŠKO THERMAL SPA

Occupancy in July and in the first half of the year is in line with the company’s expectations and plans. In the month of July, they recorded more domestic guests than foreign guests. The structure of foreign markets is very diverse, from Italian, Belgian, Austrian, Croatian guests and others. They are also satisfied with the trend of bookings for the coming months and expect slightly higher occupancy than last year.

Already in the past years, with the dispersion of tourist flows, Thermana Laško achieved that there are no seasonal fluctuations in occupancy or are minimal. Every year, they carefully select updates to their offer, both in terms of content and additional offers.

SAVA TOURISM

Occupancy in the first half of this year in the Sava Hotels & Resorts group was good in all seven resorts – Sava Hoteli Bled, Terme Ptuj, Terme 3000 – Moravske Toplice, Zdravilišče Radenci, St. Bernardin resort Portorož, San Simon resort Izola and Salinera resort Strunjan, comparable or even higher in some places compared to last year.

Based on the current demand in the Sava Hotels & Resorts group, they estimate that occupancy during the summer holidays will also be good.

For this summer, a structure of 30% domestic guests and 70% foreign guests is indicated. Guests from the following foreign countries predominate Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Hungary, Belgium, Italy, Croatia…

This year, the proportion of foreign guests is increasing, especially those who arrive by car. Visegrad markets are growing, overseas markets are slowly picking up.

This year, the following renovations are planned and carried out:

HEALTH RESORT ZDRAVILIŠČE RADENCI

An increase in the number of various saunas and restrooms in the Zdravilišče Radenci will meet the demand and wishes of our guests.

TERME 3000 – MORAVSKE TOPLICE THERMAL SPA

At Terme 3000 – Moravske Toplice, they operate sustainably, as it is important to the company that the operations put as little burden on nature as possible. For bathing and heating needs, they pump close to 1 million cubic Liters of thermal water every year. The underground base from which this water comes has enough water and its level is not falling. However, in order to ensure this for future generations, they decided to return part of the pumped water to the bowels of the earth and thus ensure that future generations will also be able to enjoy the beneficial effects of the black thermo-mineral water without hesitation.

SAVA HOTELS & RESORTS

In recent years, they have carried out several energy-saving investment measures, i.e. energy rehabilitation of buildings, such as thermal envelopes, replacement of joinery and rehabilitation of energy systems, which affect energy savings. They have implemented quite a few energy-saving measures in recent years as part of a more sustainable operating concept (energy-saving light bulbs, faucet aerators, waste compression). These measures, both sustainable and cost-saving, naturally do not affect the comfort of guests.

In the long term, they will focus on the introduction of new alternative energy sources, such as solar energy for the preparation of hot sanitary water and the additional use of geothermal energy.

OLIMIA THERMAL SPA

At Terme Olimia, they are very satisfied with the number of visits and occupancy, as it has significantly exceeded last year’s, with the biggest difference in apartments.

They are aware of the importance of protecting nature and accordingly strive to maintain a healthy and clean environment. Economical behaviour directs them to the set goal: to preserve the natural environment, which ennobles their offer. The advantage is that they include all environmental aspects in a comprehensive way, on the one hand, in existing processes, and on the other, in development and investment projects.

In 2022, they obtained the Green Key sustainability label, a leading standard of excellence in the field of environmental responsibility and sustainable operation in the tourism industry. The obtained standard means the company’s commitment to comply with the strict criteria set by the International Foundation for Environmental Education FEE.

LIFECLASS HOTELS & SPA PORTOROŽ

In the first half of the year, occupancy was at the level of last year. In terms of occupancy, the summer season will also be comparable to the previous year. According to the current data, the month of July is still slightly behind last year, but the prospects for August are better for the time being compared to 2022. According to the reservations, the situation changes daily – the performance in July will mainly depend on the second half of the month. So far, it shows similar occupancy results as we recorded last year.

This year, as expected, there were fewer Slovenian guests, but they were replaced by guests from Austria, Italy, Germany and the Visegrad markets (Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic). The biggest shift is recorded in the mentioned Visegrad markets, and Hungary (we noticed this already last year) and the Czech Republic (a big shift compared to last year) stands out among them. Overnight stays by Italian guests also increased in July and August.

TERME ZREČE THERMAL SPA

Terme Zreče generated 10,740 overnight stays this July so far, which is 3.6% more than in July 2022, while in the first half of 2023, they generated 56,465 overnight stays, which is 10% more than in the same period of 2022.

In July, they counted the most Slovenian guests at Terme Zreče, namely 65%. Among foreigners, most guests come from the Czech Republic, Saudi Arabia, the Netherlands, Germany, Hungary, Romania, Israel, Italy, Kuwait and Belgium.

In the continuation of the summer season, the number of overnight stays remains at the same level as last year. Based on current demand and the trend of last-minute bookings, which also depend on weather conditions, they expect that the number of overnight stays will increase significantly in the coming weeks.

In Unitur, this summer they are focusing on the exclusive connection of the thermal spa Terme Zreče and the mid-mountain Center Rogla, as well as on upgrading active and green experiences.

Otherwise, this summer too, they are paying special attention to the content and quality of our offer, both in Terme Zreče and Rogla, focusing mainly on upgrading the experience offer for families, programs based on healthy, green and active experiences and the creation of culinary stories that offer a synergy between the rich culinary tradition of our places and modern trends in a healthy way of eating, which include fresh, locally produced foods and nutritional products.
