{"id":5561,"date":"2024-12-19T16:49:43","date_gmt":"2024-12-19T15:49:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/europeanspas.eu\/?p=5561"},"modified":"2024-12-19T16:49:44","modified_gmt":"2024-12-19T15:49:44","slug":"the-national-spa-conference-organised-by-the-french-thermal-and-climatic-federation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/europeanspas.eu\/the-national-spa-conference-organised-by-the-french-thermal-and-climatic-federation\/","title":{"rendered":"The National Spa Conference, organised by the French Thermal and Climatic Federation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The National Spa Conference, organised by the French Thermal and Climatic Federation (FTCF) and its partners, has been held in Gr\u00e9oux-les-Bains from 5 to 7 November,<\/strong> bringing together 230 key players, spa operators, representatives of the sector&#8217;s institutions, and dedicated elected representatives of the spa industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The meetings provided an opportunity to take stock of the contribution made by the spa industry on health, to present the prospects and challenges of spa medicine and the innovations planned for the spa industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Bringing together the key players in the spa industry<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first day was devoted to presentations by two key partners in the spa industry: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federationthermale.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/OESTh-Rapport-National-VFinale.pdf\">The Observatoire National de l&#8217;\u00e9conomie des stations thermales<\/a> (National Observatory of the Spa Economy) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atout-france.fr\/fr\/informations\/atotu-france-et-ses-partenaires-lancent-la-campagne-villes-deaux-villes-de-bien-etre\">Atout France<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"538\" height=\"424\" src=\"https:\/\/europeanspas.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/French-Thermal-and-Climatic-Federation2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5563\" srcset=\"https:\/\/europeanspas.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/French-Thermal-and-Climatic-Federation2.jpg 538w, https:\/\/europeanspas.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/French-Thermal-and-Climatic-Federation2-300x236.jpg 300w, https:\/\/europeanspas.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/French-Thermal-and-Climatic-Federation2-150x118.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 538px) 100vw, 538px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The National Observatory of the Spa Economy is tasked with measuring and promoting the impact of the spa industry in terms of tourism, regional attractiveness and boosting employment and local trade. The analyses are based on data submitted by spas, tourist offices and General Managers of spas to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nomadeis.com\/\">Nomad\u00e9is,<\/a> who presented the 2024 results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tourism development agency, Atout France, has presented the details and results of the \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.atout-france.fr\/fr\/informations\/atotu-france-et-ses-partenaires-lancent-la-campagne-villes-deaux-villes-de-bien-etre\">Villes d&#8217;Eaux, Villes de Bien-\u00eatre 2024\u2019<\/a> campaign, dedicated to promoting the natural, cultural and gastronomic heritage of these destinations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The official welcome of participants took place at the Gr\u00e9oux-les-Bains spa, in the presence of <strong>Adeline and Eleonore Gu\u00e9rard,<\/strong> CEOs of the Cha\u00eene Thermale du Soleil, <strong>Jean-Yves Gouttebel<\/strong>, inter-ministerial coordinator for the spa industry, <strong>Paul Audan, <\/strong>mayor of Gr\u00e9oux-les-Bains, <strong>Jean-Fran\u00e7ois Beraud, <\/strong>president of the F\u00e9d\u00e9ration Thermale et Climatique Fran\u00e7aiseand <strong>Thierry Dubois,<\/strong> President of the Conseil National des \u00c9tablissements Thermaux (CNETh).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Intervention by Paul Audan,\u00a0 Mayor of Gr\u00e9oux-les-Bains<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"834\" height=\"598\" src=\"https:\/\/europeanspas.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/French-Thermal-and-Climatic-Federation3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5564\" srcset=\"https:\/\/europeanspas.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/French-Thermal-and-Climatic-Federation3.jpg 834w, https:\/\/europeanspas.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/French-Thermal-and-Climatic-Federation3-300x215.jpg 300w, https:\/\/europeanspas.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/French-Thermal-and-Climatic-Federation3-768x551.jpg 768w, https:\/\/europeanspas.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/French-Thermal-and-Climatic-Federation3-150x108.jpg 150w, https:\/\/europeanspas.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/French-Thermal-and-Climatic-Federation3-696x499.jpg 696w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 834px) 100vw, 834px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;Paul Audan, mayor of Gr\u00e9oux-les-Bains and president of the French Spa Mayors\u2019 Association, gave a presentation of his town, an <strong>out-of-the-ordinary place with a population of 3088 citizens, whose economy is essentially based on the spa industry, and which welcomed 27,000 spa visitors in 2023,<\/strong> generating almost 70 million euros in direct and indirect benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since its first edition in 2015, this is the second time that Gr\u00e9oux has been chosen to host this major event in the spa industry. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Intervention by Marina Ferrari, French Minister for Economy and Tourism<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"728\" height=\"330\" src=\"https:\/\/europeanspas.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/French-Thermal-and-Climatic-Federation4.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5565\" srcset=\"https:\/\/europeanspas.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/French-Thermal-and-Climatic-Federation4.jpg 728w, https:\/\/europeanspas.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/French-Thermal-and-Climatic-Federation4-300x136.jpg 300w, https:\/\/europeanspas.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/French-Thermal-and-Climatic-Federation4-150x68.jpg 150w, https:\/\/europeanspas.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/French-Thermal-and-Climatic-Federation4-696x315.jpg 696w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 728px) 100vw, 728px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Both in her position as Minister for the Economy and Tourism and as the elected representative of one of France&#8217;s largest spa towns (Aix-Les-Bains), Marina Ferrari assured the audience that <strong>the government is convinced, on the basis of numerous studies, of the role played by spas in terms of public health<\/strong>. The Minister cited a number of the pathologies concerned, including, among the most recent, post-breast cancer care and the Covid long syndrome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;Anticipating future challenges<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the sights of the Conseil national des \u00e9tablissements thermaux (CNETh) this year, the <strong>funding of medical cures,<\/strong> which is threatened as part of the Social Security Financing Bill 2025\u2019.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Thierry Dubois, President of CNETh<\/strong>, stressed that spa treatments also play a role \u201cin terms of prevention, support for ageing and detecting the risk of dependency\u201d. He argued that \u201c<strong>Spa medicine is an opportunity for access to health for all, as a complement to other treatments; it cannot be considered as a variable for adjusting public accounts<\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another major issue for resorts is the <strong>management of water from France&#8217;s 149 thermo-mineral springs, <\/strong>some of which are threatened in the very short term by climate change and drought.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2023, according to the Observatoire national de l&#8217;\u00e9conomie des villes thermales (National observatory of the spa towns economy<strong>), 70% of spa establishments had no forecast or precise knowledge of how this resource would evolve over the next five years.<\/strong> \u2018It&#8217;s a subject that concerns us because we have a few establishments that are forced to be careful,\u2019 reminds Thierry Dubois. \u201cWe prefer to plan ahead rather than suffer\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Spa Conference, organised by the French Thermal and Climatic Federation (FTCF) and its partners, has been held in Gr\u00e9oux-les-Bains from 5 to 7 November, bringing together 230 key players, spa operators, representatives of the sector&#8217;s institutions, and dedicated elected representatives of the spa industry.
